Letter to the Honorable Rosemary Chiavetta, Secretary of Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission - Further Benefits of Tax Cuts and Jobs Act for Constituents, Pennsylvania Residents

Letter

Date: March 12, 2018
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-16) is working to help ensure his constituents, and all residents of Pennsylvania, receive the full benefits of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was signed into law in December.

Rep. Smucker wrote a letter to Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission Secretary Rosemary Chiavetta urging the commission to review the impact of recent tax changes and consider adjusting current utility rates to reflect the recent changes.

In the letter, Rep. Smucker said:

"Since enactment of this tax bill, utility companies in more than 40 states have already shared the benefits of the recent federal corporate tax reduction with their customers, several including rate reductions. As the Commission completes its investigation, we believe the full benefits of this federal tax law have not yet been passed along to Pennsylvania consumers."

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Pennsylvania ranks third in the nation for energy production, yet Pennsylvania consumers pay 16 percent more than the average American household for energy consumption.
